Our very own Dr. Kent Sasse was among the Reno runners to qualify for the 2020 Boston Marathon. Unfortunately, the fallout surrounding COVID-19 led to its first cancellation in more than 120 years. But there is good news. This September, the Boston Marathon is going virtual and plans are underway for a Reno edition.
The Virtual Boston Marathon
Qualifying for the 124th Boston Marathon is a big accomplishment, and the cancellation was a huge blow for many. Enter the virtual race — an opportunity for qualified participants to run the full 26.2 miles between September 7 and 14 and provide proof of timing to the Boston Athletic Association (BAA). All finishers will receive the coveted post-race package with a Boston Marathon official participant shirt, coveted finisher’s medal and other celebratory items. It’s not a substitute for the real thing, but it’s something.
While the virtual race is only open to participants who were originally entered in the Boston Marathon scheduled for April of this year, we’re inviting pace runners to accompany the racers in the Reno edition of the virtual race. The race will begin at 7 am on Saturday, September 12, with the starting point yet to be determined. If this is something you’d like to be involved in, as a pace runner or to offer support with a water station, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us to become part of the virtual Boston Marathon, Reno edition. The more, the merrier!
