Dr. Deacon Schoenberger
Dr. Shoenberger attended the clinical psychology doctoral program at the University of Nevada, Reno and completed a PhD with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral treatments for anxiety disorders and addictions. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Portland VA Medical Center and received specialized training in in psychological assessment, behavioral medicine and health psychology, eating disorders treatment, and chronic disease management. He completed post-doctoral training with an emphasis on behavioral pediatrics and adolescent psychology and became a Nevada Licensed Psychologist in 2009.
While in practice, Dr. Shoenberger has consulted to several local healthcare agencies specializing in behavioral health and lifestyle change. He began working with Dr. Sasse in 2009 and has extensive experience performing pre-surgical psychological assessments and post-surgery therapy to assist bariatric patients with their adjustment to surgery. He also assisted in the development of our medically supervised weight loss program and has worked with the patients and staff at the International Metabolic Institute and Nevada Surgical for many years.
Dr. Shoenberger is a native Nevadan. Both of his parents attended the University of Nevada, Reno and he, his mother, and his sister are all graduates of Reno High School. He grew up a competitive athlete and his interest in athletic performance led him to study kinesiology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas before transferring to California State University, Chico to join the men’s basketball team and begin studying psychology. He continues to participate in competitive athletics as an intermediate distance open-water swimmer and he and his family enjoy hiking, skiing, and swimming in the lakes and mountains of Reno and Tahoe.
